The Pirates of Arabian: Angry Folks

Somali pirates in small boats hijacked the arms-laden Ukrainian freighter Faina.

Just to talk about what fate can make out of people. I was astonished by reading an article about some Indian Sailors who were released 2 days back by the Most Dangerous Pirates that have ever sailed in the Arabian Sea. They are called the Somali Pirates and they are at large since 2005 and may be longer.

I used to think that Pirates are an extinct race and only the Trilogy about their Caribbean Counterparts revived them on screen until I read about the Somali Pirates. It is very touchy to read about them as they don't consider themselves as Sea bandits or Killers. Read the whole story here. They don't kill people but all they want is money and freedom from Illegal Shipping or Fishing Companies their home seas.

They were predominantly fishermen folks who saw the invasion of their seas by Illegal Fishing Companies and Numerous Cargo Ships that used this route for transporting their cargo to and from African nations. It was fine in the mid-nineties but later they started to pollute the seas by dumping their waste in it and by depleting all the natural resources in and around the area.

The meek villagers formed a rebellion against the notorious shipping companies who did not even pay the taxes applicable to fish in their region and made their sea a dirty road for trafficking arms and drugs. They hijacked the ships and made the sailors hostages. They later freed them and the ship after getting a few million dollars as ransom.

As the primary occupation in the nearby countries is fishing it became an industry there and these pirates are now trained on hijacking techniques and weaponry skills. The most astonishing fact as reported by the surviving hostages for the pirates is that they are inhuman and no less than Animals. From haunting memories of being made to strip so that the pirates could have the clothes they desired to the chilling fear of being shot dead at any point, the Indian crew members of the Iranian vessel say that they don't have the courage to sail until they have fully recovered from the trauma. One of the rescued Indian Sailor said in an Interview to Times of India that the conditions on board were extremely unhygienic. "They would never bathe, they would continuously take drugs and eat like pigs. Every other day, they would roast an animal on the deck, cut it into pieces and eat with their bare hands. If you saw it, you would just vomit," he says.

The fear rose when they unknowingly captured a ship which was a Ukrainian freighter loaded with tanks, artillery, grenade launchers and ammunition said in an interview on Tuesday that they had no idea the ship was carrying arms when they seized it on the high seas. The pirates quickly learned, though, that their booty was an estimated $30 million worth of heavy weaponry, heading for Kenya or Sudan, depending on whom you ask.

Just this year they hijacked 25 ships and demanded hundreds of millions inn ransom. They use humans as their shields and just ruthlessly deplete the resources of the ship.

This whole story is no less than a movie and there is a lot of media about this on the Internet.

I just wonder did Captain Jack Sparrow had some inspiration from these Real Somali Pirates??
